Barbara was born on Larrakia land and has deep family connections to the Yawuru and Gija language groups of Beagle Bay Mission and Mabel Downs Station. She is grateful for the rich health and prosperity of Noongar culture and loves living on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar. Barbara takes pride in the achievements of the Noongar people and their Elders in the past, present, and future – always honouring the eternal sacredness of Noongar Country.
She first recognised her creative talent when she became a member of Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company’s esteemed Writers Group in 2015. As a talented playwright, Barbara has produced works that have been proudly associated with respected theatre companies such as Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company, Black Swan State Theatre Company, and the Blue Room Theatre. A few of her works include Banned (2016), Go Fish (2017), Turtle Pool (2018), Thirst (2019) and Perpetuity (2020).
Some of her more notable plays include Cracked, produced by the Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company in collaboration with Playwriting Australia in 2019, who once again came together for the Dear Australia postcard series the following year to showcase Burning; In June 2020, Black Swan State Theatre Company produced Own Way as part of the Unsung Heroes monologue series.
Barbara is a proud Aboriginal woman who is passionate about lending her voice to commercial and creative voice over projects that will enhance the Noongar culture.
Outside of her creative pursuits, Barbara dedicates her time to assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander University students in realising their dreams of becoming veterinarians.
Barbara’s story is one of passion, culture, and dedication to both her craft and her community.
